BollyRail – Indian Movie Songs On Trains

If you like Indian movie songs, and Indian railways, you’ve come to the right page…

They are listed with the youtube embedded on a sub page, but it takes an age to load, so I took them off the post, click through on this link if you have good bandwidth https://gcirc.wordpress.com/photos/bollyrail-–-indian-movie-songs-on-trains/ Further more, I’ve now come in contact with Atul and his amazing Bollywood song blog. Like so many Indians, Atul is a secret railway fan too, so he’s been collecting these songs for years. There are another 16 or more songs that we’ve missed. Atul has the words for all of them, and an English language description and an anecdote for them all. I’m working with the IRFCA gurus to add technical railway info onto them also, and get them into a chronologically ordered list. There are some really great songs in here, even if you dont speak a word of Hindi. Mere Sapnon Ki Rani is many peoples favourite. Of course if you grew up with these songs then many of them are of immeasurable sentimental value.

There’s a couple of extra ones now, Parineeta is great.
I wonder if there’s any swiss stuff. Laterbrunnen is teaming with Indians, I wondered why then discovered that it’s such a popular backdrop form Indian movies that the whole area is a sort of honorary part of India.
All in all the area has THE mountain railway to beat anything anyone else has.

Reg the Tu Kaun hai from Bhopal express, I’m extremely sure that the train picturised is not Bhopal Express. There is NO such train from Hyderabad.

Also the station with 5 lines where most scenes were shot is Hafeezpet (in Hyderabad city).

  5. Ashok Kumars “Rail Gadi ” song althrough contains only the children train but IMHO is the most pertinant song ‘about railways’ . The youtube link is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcLrPIE_18o (first 2 minutes has the song)

Thanks Sunil. I’d had it suggested before. I turned it down for lack of genuine railway content, but it’s obviously a much loved song so I’ll stick it in. They are great songs but I can understand that especially the old ones have special significance if you can remember being a kid and watching them in the cinema.

Why is it that the popular 1970 song from Prem Pujari – phoolon ke rang se , dil ki kalam se – is not included ? Because it is not Indian Railway ?

    • Lester

There’s not specific reason, though we were mainly looking ta india (I think there’s another in thee though that is in Germany) It guess it’s Switzerland, ah yes, on the other side of the Eiger, I’ve got a story about £15 for a very simple chapatti and dahl at the top of the Jungfraujoch, there are just soooo many Indians up there!.
I’ll add it in, many thanks.
